Meet the team

Hi! We are two experienced Yoga teachers teaching in the Viniyoga lineage. We founded Phoenix Yoga 14 years ago to share what we have learned over many years of study with our teachers in this tradition.

After teaching Yoga full time in Gloucestershire, we’re now based in Hanc (79110), in the south of Deux Sèvres (79) close to the Charente (16) and Vienne (86) borders.

We are self confessed Yoga nerds who are fascinated by what a regular, tailored Yoga practice can achieve.

We’ve worked with a variety of students from boxing clubs to residential nursing homes, office workers to elite athletes. Our skillset and depth of knowledge means that whether you’re already a keen Yoga practitioner or you haven’t stretched in years we can create a Yoga practice that will work for you and your goals.

If you have an idea of what a Yoga teacher should be, you'll probably find we don't conform to it. We come as we are (definitely a work in progress and usually with a coffee cup in hand!) and we will always encourage you to be as you are too!

Our approach to Yoga is functional, down to earth and suitable for all. If you join us, you'll always be made to feel very welcome.

5 things you might not know about Kate, yet!

I really, really like coffee!
If you see me in the morning I can always be found with a cup close at hand! Needs to be the good stuff and unadulterated.  If it's in my favourite china Moomin cup, so much the better!

I used to be a chartered accountant....
Ok, the less said about those twenty years of my life, the better!  However, it does mean that I do know the importance of making time to move regularly and de-stress regardless of how busy you are!

I'm a bit mad about parkrun!
Our nearest parkrun is currently around 100km away so we only get to go a few times a year. However, I have been known to completely rearrange our holidays to try and fit an extra one in! I really miss it so we're working hard to get a new one started a bit closer to home. In the meantime, I’m taking full advantage of the notparkrun option to keep connected and motivated.

My favourite city is
Kuala Lumpur! The first time we visited was a complete accident (it was our emergency escape route out of civil unrest in Thailand - long story!) and we had no idea what to expect. We arrived at 4am and had 16 hours to kill before our flight out.  We loved the food, the people and the architecture so much we've been back twice since!

I'm still watching
The Big Bang Theory as I'm a bit of a nerd too!

I used to be
The lead singer in a heavy metal band!  Nowadays, my dulcet tones can more often be heard shouting encouragement to parkrunners when I marshal at our local event!

I have been going
Bald since I was seven years old!  My old school photos are an absolute hoot!  I also have an extensive selection of rather unusual hats which can also be seen whenever I’m marshalling at parkrun or walking the dog!

I met my wife
At the bottom of a flooded quarry (scuba diving in Stoney Cove!).  I decided she was the one when she dropped me in a shark tank for my thirtieth birthday.

I love dogs
My current dog is a seven year old rescue. He's a bit husky, a bit collie, a bit greyhound and 100% loopy. He had a rough start in life but he’s slowly developing into a big character. I wouldn't be without him even though he hogs the sofa (I blame his greyhound genes for that one!).

My favourite food is
Anything spicy as I'm completely addicted to chili peppers! I'm barred from adding them to our food at home as I don't feel the heat and I can only taste the flavour they add. Unfortunately, the rest of the family don't share my level of enthusiasm or heat tolerance!
